he festive season approaches, and after last year’s lockdowns, it’s time to make it one to remember. From stunning lights and displays to the entertainment heart of the city, if you’re spending Christmas in Sydney, here are the festive activities you need to add to your itinerary.
The Rocks
The Rocks are a great day trip with several Christmas events to choose from and one of our client’s favourite festive destinations each year.
1. Christmas Wanderlane
Christmas in Sydney isn’t complete without extravagant decorations and I can’t think of anywhere better than the Christmas Wanderlanes! Five-meter-high Christmas trees? Check. Giant snow globes? Check. A mini Christmas village at the Wells Courtyard that features glittering replicas of the Rocks’ architecture. Check!
The Rock’s entire precinct has been completely transformed to give you and your family a full-on Christmas experience. From the Wells Courtyard to Nurses Walk, you’ll find an abundance of fairy lights, picture-perfect moments, and even cheeky elves throughout the Christmas period!
2. Christmas Market
At the Rocks Christmas Market, you’ll find unique items from dozens of local gift makers. But you’ll find more than just gifts. The bustling harbourside is also filled with gourmet street food and other treats! So after filling your bag, you can fill your stomachs amidst the bright Christmas decor and festive music.
The Rocks Christmas market is on until December 19 and is open:
- 4pm – 9pm (Fridays)
- 10am – 9pm (Saturdays)
- 10am – 5pm (Sundays).
3. Santa Paws Pet Photos
Christmas is for everyone, even furbabies! So if you’ve got family members with four paws, you can get them in the photo with Santa for free. Head on over to The Rocks for Santa Paws Pet Photo on:
- 4th December (9am – 12 pm)
- 11th December (9am – 12 pm)
- 18th December (9am – 12 pm)

4. Winter at Tinseltown
It’s Sydney’s dedicated Christmas pop-up! Winter at Tinseltown offers a 90 minute Christmas experience complete with a Christmas cocktail menu, bar elves, games, and festive music. It’s a great place to take that special someone or hang out with friends during your Christmas party after a long day at work. You can even win a special prize if you come in your best outfit or the ugliest Christmas jumper!

5. Bastille French Christmas Market
Feeling the French vibe this Christmas? Head on over to the Bastille French Christmas Market and stuff your belly with wine, food, and French culture!
Get a tour around France through the various cuisines from different regions. Whether you’re into crepes, raclette, or macarons, there’s something for your the sweet and the savoury taste buds.
For wine lovers, a French wine tasting tour samples 5 of the most premium wines across the famous wine regions. But what’s great wine without some cheese? A wine and cheese cellar has a variety of cheeses for takeaway. Bring them home for after Christmas dinner or as a special gift!
Visit the Bastille French Market at Customs House, Loftus Street from:
- December 17 – 20 (10am – 10:30pm)

6. Choirs In The City: Martin Place
Christmas carols bring that Christmas feeling alive. And where else can you hear beautiful and festive songs but in Martin Place? Choirs In The City showcases a different choir group each day to sing your favourite Christmas carols under Martin Place’s giant Christmas Tree.
Aside from the festive songs, the whole family can also enjoy a kaleidoscope of colours and a decorative light show every 15 minutes starting at 7pm until midnight.
Choirs In The City is ongoing until December 24, with the carolling on from 6pm to 8pm.
Darling Harbour
Christmas in Sydney is in full effect in Darling Harbour. Activities abound and whether it’s shopping, interactive exhibits, or kids’ activities, there’s something for everyone this season.
7. The Giant Bauble
Want a larger than life Christmas experience? Get your camera ready for the 6 metre tall Christmas bauble that is lighting up Darling Harbour to start off your evening! This giant decoration, best viewed at night, is guaranteed to get anyone in the Christmas spirit and it also provides the perfect backdrop for a family photo or a selfie for your next Instagram story.
The Christmas bauble is free to view at the ICC Frontcourt between the 12th November to the 26th December.
8. Sky Castle
Sky Castle brings fascination to adults and big kids alike! It’s an audio and visual treat of interactive inflatable arches located in Tumbalong Park. The arches offer a symphony of lights and melodic xylophone soundscapes triggered every time someone passes through. And the more people pass through, the more extraordinary the experience becomes.
With Sky Castle, lights and festive music it’s guaranteed to give that warm fuzzy feeling of joy and hope that the holidays bring.
The Sky Castle is open from November 19 to December 26 (10am – 10pm).
